A Brand New Week

A new day and a new week and lots of things to do. I’m so excited that tomorrow the finishing instructions for the Quilty Fun Quilt along will be available.  I want to get it finished to give to my granddaughter for her new bedroom she will have when they move into their new home.  Mom and Dad (daughter and future son-in-law) are supposed to close on their new home on Monday,  I know they are excited.

I quilted the second memory quilt yesterday.  All it needs is the binding.

DelightfulStarsLesson8

Lesson 8 of the Delightful Stars Quilt Along.  Lesson 9 will be ready sometime on Tuesday.

Tuesday is also the first day of April and 5 of the BOMs that I’m doing will be available.  So I will have a busy week.

Will Spring Ever Get Here?

It is still in the 30’s this morning.  Will it ever warm up?  Not that I’m wishing for summer, just temperatures above 45 degrees.  I like Spring and Fall weather.

The last block is made!  Next week the finishing begins.  This is so cute.  It will be for my granddaughter.  It has been so designated by my daughter, who never likes my quilts, but thinks this one is cute.  I cheated on the antennae, flower and writing.  It was supposed to be embroidered, but I used a permanent marker.    It probably turned out neater that way. Thank you Lori Holt for doing this quilt along.

The second memory quilt top is finished.  Now to get the backing fixed and on the frame for quilting.

Disappointed

Can you believe the Rome library is closed on Fridays!  It has been for several years.  Guess we never went to the Lavender Mountain Quilt Guild Quilt Show on a Friday before.  It was disappointing that we didn’t get to see the quilts.  We went to Hancock Fabrics and the quilt shop on Broad St. and then had lunch at the Mellow Mushroom.  So it was still an enjoyable outing.

MemoryQuilt2a

I’ve gotten a good start on the 2nd memory quilt.  The blocks are arranged a little differently in this one.  Guess I started with a different block and twisted and turned them differently.  Think I like this layout a little better.  Hope it won’t cause a problem between the two ladies receiving the quilts.  They will still have the same borders.

Going to Rome (Don’t I Wish)

The Rome, GA quilt guild has a quilt show at the library every March and we are going up there today to see the quilts.  There is a nice little quilt shop there too that we will probably go to.  We’ll have lunch and it there is time we might swing by Hancock on the way home. I’m planning for a fun day.

Up date on the baby chicks.

BabyChicks3

They are so cute and looking so much better now that they have dried out and fluffed up.  They went outside for a little while yesterday.  Right now they are in a cardboard box on the back porch.  Soon someone will need to build a chicken coop for them.

DelightfulStarsLesson7

This weeks Delightful Stars block.  Got to use my tri-recs rulers again.  I can remember years ago I tried using them and the blocks turned out very badly and I hated those rulers.  I wouldn’t make any blocks that called for using them.  Then Bonnie Hunter used the Tri-recs rulers in her last mystery.  I watched her instructions on how to use them and everything went pretty smoothly.  I found if you line everything up right, the blocks will come out ok.  Now the tri-recs no longer intimidate me. Even the name is intimidating, it sounds like a carnivorous eating dinosaur.

Baby Chicks

BabyChicks1BabyChicks2

It is hard to see them, but there are three little chicks.  Now we have five.  Two more hatched after I took these pictures.  They hatched Sunday.  There are still some more eggs, but don’t know if they will hatch or not.

The first memory quilt has been picked up and I’m to make another just like the first one.

MemoryQuilt1d

This is the finished quilt.  It looks better in person.

QuiltyFun18

This weeks Quilty Fun Quilt Along block is finished.  Only one more to go, the bumble bee. I can’t wait to get this top put together.

It’s Hump Day

Just like the camel in the commercial reminds people.  I like that commercial.

Guess I should have gone to the gym this morning, but just didn’t feel like getting out of bed. I did go to flow class yesterday.  I enjoyed it and I’m not real sore this morning.

I’ve made progress on the memory quilt.

The body of the quilt is made.  I’ve auditioned fabrics for the borders.  I’ve decided on a pink with little blue circles for the inner border and the bottom fabric in the the far right picture as the outer border. I like the darker of the three fabrics, but only have enough for one quilt.  I don’t know if the quilts need to have the same borders or if they can be different.  If they don’t need to be the same, I may use it for the second quilt.

The Quilty Fun Quilt Along block came out Monday.  It kicked my ass.  I can’t figure out why four little mittens should have been so hard to make.  This was one case of “done” is better than “perfect”. I was really stressed by the time I got finished.

Some how I end up with left handed gloves instead of the right handed ones I was trying to make.  I like how the quilt is turning out.  Just two more blocks to go and then it will be time to assemble the top. I’m so glad I decided to do this quilt along.

Keeping Up

So far I am managing to keep up with all 11 BOMs and Quilt Alongs.

ViseVersaMarch

My March Vise Versa blocks. When I was trying to get caught up last month, I put this BOM off to do last, because I just couldn’t get into it.  Now I can’t figure out why.  I’m just loving these cute 9’ blocks.

EVQGMysteryClue2

Clue 2 of the Etowah Valley Quilt Guild Mystery.  Did these as my leaders and enders and managed to finish before clue 3 comes out next week.  I hope I can continue to do the clues as my leaders and enders.

MForMysteryMonth3

Month 3 of the M for Mystery BOM.  There are a lot of busy fabrics in this.  I am curious to see how it turns out.

I’m doing a really easy pattern for the first memory quilt.  Got all the parts cut and 5 of the blocks made.  It is a little early to tell how it is going to turn out.  There were a lot of knit and rayon fabrics. I had to back most of them with fusible interfacing.  I felt unsure about cutting up all those cloths.  It isn’t the same as cutting regular fabric.
