May BOMs Finished

Can’t say the same for my Quilt A Longs.  I’m behind on them and getting further behind by the minute.  I didn’t make it into my quilting studio for the past two days.  Today a lady is supposed to bring me a quilt to quilt for her and the Quilty Fun quilt is still on the frame. OnTheFrame1 I’m waiting for more fabric for the “Never Enough Chocolate” quilt A Long and I’m two weeks behind on “Delightful Stars” because of issues with Comcast email.  It seems they have taken a dislike to the Quilting Gallery and won’t let the emails through.  I requested a change of email address for the emails to be delivered to and now have my missing patterns, but haven’t had time to even think about making them.

NeverEnoughChocolate3

Still deciding on fabrics, but getting close.  Think I will go with the fabrics in the blocks on the left, but waiting on another with black background to replace the one with the green in the blocks on the right.

MForMysteryMonth5

This is clue (month) 5 of the M for Mystery.  I especially love the blue paisley fabric that came this month. I want to add some to my “paisley” stash.

PurpleSage9PurpleSage1-9

After nine blocks I really am regretting some of my purple fabric choices.  That’s what comes from working from my stash and refusing to buy more fabric.  Use what is in my stash or forgo the project.  I’ve lighten up a little on that plan.  Although I still think it is a good way to operate.

May Vise Versa blocks.  I so am loving this BOM.  It may be partially due to the colors I picked.

SewRetroKitchenMaySewRetroKitchenJan-May

So far the May block is my favorite.  This is another scrappy project.  So far I’ve been able to dig through my scrap bin for fabrics.

Spring2014-1

These plastic molded chairs sure have held up well.  Think I’ve had these for around 20 years.  The one Lydia is sitting in was here mother’s when she was little.

May BOM Progress

Off to a good start.  I’ve finished 3 BOMs for this May and working on # 4.

AurifilMay

Second row right is the May block.  The four white corners don’t show up well on the white design wall.

GlobetrottingMayGlobetrottingJan-May

This month’s Globetrotting block is London.  Wish I could visit all of these cities.

TellItToTheStarsMayTellItToTheStarsJan-May

Finally some more purple!  I like these star blocks, especially the May block. Maybe the color scheme will grow on me.

AlmostChristmas1

Another UFO on the design wall.  I’ve started sewing the sashing between the rows.  I worked on this before the May BOMs came out.  Hope I can get back to it shortly.  I’m calling it “Almost Christmas”.  It is made from a line of Moda Christmas fabrics from a few years ago.  The only one that looks really Christmassy is the print with the holly leaves on it.  I would like to finish up some of the UFOs that are laying around.

OnTheFrame1

Almost got this quilted last month.  It won’t take long to finish once I get all of this month’s BOM blocks out of the way. The binding is made and ready to be applied as soon as it is off the frame. And get caught up on the quilt alongs.

It will be time to start the blocks for the new quilt along I couldn’t resist doing.  I’m waiting on some Kaffe fabrics that I ordered from Hancock’s of Paducah to arrive.  Maybe I will like them better than a couple of the ones I all ready have.  I wasn’t real happy with the light purple.  Thought it was too light for the dark fabrics in the other blocks.  Hope it get here soon.  This is a short quilt along and I don’t want to get too far behind.

Moving On Along

QuiltyFun24

The Quilty fun top is done.  I’m hoping to get it quilted this week.  The backing is being washed.  Maybe I can get it on the frame today as well.  Still need to decide on the quilting design to use.

DelightfulStarsLesson11DelightfulStarsLessons1-11

All up to date on the Delightful Stars.  This is the Lesson 11 block. I’m going to have to open up the design wall soon for this one.  That means finishing the UFO on it.

I just couldn’t resist doing the “Never Enough Chocolate” Quilt Along.

NeverEnoughChocolate1

I was auditioning background fabrics for the dark blocks.  Decided I didn’t like the orange.

NeverEnoughChocolate2

Here are the fabrics I finally decided on.  The are Kaffe Fassett fabrics, except for the background fabrics.  That was the challenge part of the quilt along for me; finally using some of my Kaffe fabrics I’ve been hording.  It will probably be May before I actually start the quilt.  Need to try and finish the UFO on my design wall.

Almost

The Quilty Fun top is almost done.

QuiltyFun22

I asked my granddaughter if she like her quilt.  She told me “not yet” and started putting little triangle scrap pieces on the top.

QuiltyFun23

The top is almost done, just have to add the last border. I think the added rows at top and bottom worked out.  It should be twin size when complete.

Have a Glorious Easter!

Two Projects Finished

The Spring Chicks table runner and the Easter Bunny Mug Rug are finished.  Two new projects that I had no business starting when I have so many others that need finishing.

BunnyMugRugSpringChicksTablerunner2

Both patterns were featured on Pat Sloan’s facebook group.  The bunny mug rug is a tutorial at http://melissagoodsell.typepad.com.  The table runner is my version of a free Pat Sloan pattern.  Now Pat is starting a Quilt Along with a challenge to it to celebrate her first e-pattern.  The pattern is Never Enough Chocolate and the challenge is to use a special fabric you have been saving for a special project or because you just couldn’t make yourself cut it up.  Do I need to start a new project?  Definitely not!  But I can’t resist a quilt along or a challenge and this has both. I down loaded the pattern, now to decide which “special fabric” to use; batiks, the paisleys or the Kaffe Fassett I’ve been collecting.

But first I need to finish the Quilty Fun top.  Or work a little each day on both of them.

QuiltyFun21

I swapped the blocks around on the left side so they are back in the correct order.  The blocks to be added to the top and bottom to make it longer are made.  I just have to sew them together with the spacers to make the rows and finish putting the top together.  I’m hoping to call this project completed by the end of the month.

Another Month, Another set of BOMs

Tuesday and Wednesday I printed directions for 5 on-line BOMs and 1 weekly quilt along, plus received a BOM in the mail. Then on Friday the Vice Versa BOM will be ready. I will be busy for the next couple of days trying to get them all completed.

TellItToTheStarsAprilTellItToTheStarsJan-April

So far I have made the April “Tell it to the Stars” blocks.  The light yellow doesn’t show up very well in the pictures.  That is the fabric that I got the two accent colors, red and purple, from. So far, I’m not seeing enough purple in the blocks.  Maybe that will change over the next few months.  Right now I’m sort of wishing I would have switched the red and purple color placement.

QuiltyFun20

This top was put together in columns and I switched some of the blocks around on the right hand side at my daughters request.  Now I see that was a mistake, so I will be doing some reverse sewing. I showed it to my daughter and she agreed, as long as she gets the blocks she likes in the top and bottom rows that I will be adding to make the quilt longer.  I also explained why I couldn’t use the blocks that she first picked for the extra rows.  Think we have it figured out now.  Because it was done in columns, the blocks do not line up into rows going across and I will be adding a horizontal row top and bottom.  Those blocks have to all be the same height all the way across the top.

Think I will do my weekly and monthly blocks before I tackle it again.  I don’t want to get too far behind on my other projects, although I want to get this top quilted by the end of the month.

Will Spring Ever Get Here?

It is still in the 30’s this morning.  Will it ever warm up?  Not that I’m wishing for summer, just temperatures above 45 degrees.  I like Spring and Fall weather.

QuiltyFun19QuiltyFun1-19

The last block is made!  Next week the finishing begins.  This is so cute.  It will be for my granddaughter.  It has been so designated by my daughter, who never likes my quilts, but thinks this one is cute.  I cheated on the antennae, flower and writing.  It was supposed to be embroidered, but I used a permanent marker.    It probably turned out neater that way. Thank you Lori Holt for doing this quilt along.

MemoryQuilt2b

The second memory quilt top is finished.  Now to get the backing fixed and on the frame for quilting.

Fat cat.  Who does he think he is sleeping on my bed!

Baby Chicks

BabyChicks1BabyChicks2

It is hard to see them, but there are three little chicks.  Now we have five.  Two more hatched after I took these pictures.  They hatched Sunday.  There are still some more eggs, but don’t know if they will hatch or not.

The first memory quilt has been picked up and I’m to make another just like the first one.

MemoryQuilt1d

This is the finished quilt.  It looks better in person.

QuiltyFun18

This weeks Quilty Fun Quilt Along block is finished.  Only one more to go, the bumble bee. I can’t wait to get this top put together.

Busy, Busy

My legs are sore this morning.  Did pump class yesterday.  We were supposed to go this morning but after three months away from the gym, exercising two days in a row is a little too much.

So far I’ve been keeping up with my current projects.

QuiltyFun16

Made spool blocks this week for the Quilty Fun Quilt Along.  This is going to be such a cute little quilt when it is finished.  I’ve been enjoying this project.

SewRetroKitchenJan-MarchSewRetroKitchenMarch

This month’s paper pieced block for the Sew Retro Kitchen BOM at Quiet Play is a bowl and wooden spoon.  I’m going through my uncut scraps for this one.  I’m thinking it will be mostly reds and blues.

I met the lady wanting the memory quilts yesterday.  We decided on a pattern for the first one and I came home with a bag of clothing, mostly knits.  I will be sorting through the cloths and planning out the quilt today.  First I will finish the March unit of M for Mystery BOM.  Didn’t quite get it finished yesterday.

Almost Caught Up

Just finished printing this weeks lesson for the Delightful Stars Quilt Along.  Will start cutting in a little bit.  Got the January M is for Mystery BOM cut and ready to sew.  Think I will be making 72 flying geese.  Sounds like that will take awhile.

LeaderEnderChallenge2013-2014a

Here are my split 9- patch blocks for the Leaders & Enders Challenge that Bonnie Hunter issued last summer.  I managed to make 157 blocks.  What ever size quilt I can get out of these blocks is what I’ll make.  Just can’t resist a challenge!  Don’t know when I’ll get around to putting the blocks together, but not before I get caught up on my current projects. I still have the Aiming for Accuracy top to finish.  I think by now it should count as an UFO, so I need to be working on it as part of Pat Sloan’s monthly UFO challenge.  I’ve been too busy playing catch up to worry about UFOs.

QuiltyFun15

This weeks Quilty Fun block is butterflies.  So I am caught up for the month on this one. Yeah!  Think March is the last month and then I will need to finish the top.  Challenge to myself; finish all current projects!  No more UFOs!  I already have enough thank you. Think most of my UFO work will be quilting completed tops so they can go in the guild quilt show this fall.

TellItToTheStarsJan&Feb

January and February blocks for Patchwork Times’ “Tell it to the Stars” BOM.  Another one that I’m caught up on.  I’m doing this one in yellows and gold with purple and red being the accent colors.  Hope I will like this combo.  I want to use different color schemes for each project.

Catching Up

We have had snow twice this year!

JanuarySnow1JanuarySnow2

This is the first time it snowed. The roads were icy for a couple of days and driving was dangerous. People abandoned their cars.

  FebSnow6FebSnow7

The second time it snowed. The Grandkids enjoyed the snow. My husband’s son and grandson came up from Florida for a visit. It was Noah’s first time to see snow. It snowed February 11th and 12th and by Thursday evening the 13th it was gone. The roads weren’t as bad.  The road crews got out in a timely manner.

FebSnow1FebSnow3FebSnow4

This was the scene on Thursday morning before it warmed up and melted.  It was very pretty to look out at.

CelticSolsticeTop1CelticSolsticeTop2

I finally finished the Bonnie Hunter Celtic Solstice Mystery.  I made 121 blocks for the large king sized top and was able to make two tops, one queen size and the other a large throw size.  I’m glad to have them done.

Now I am playing catch up on all the Quilt Alongs and Block of the Months I’m trying to do.

AurifilJanandFebGlobetrottingJanandFeb

The red and gray are the Aurifil January and February blocks and the blue are the Pat Sloan Globetrotting Blocks for January and February. So far I am liking the blue.  Hope my blues will continue to work so well.  I am worried it will be too much blue.

QuiltyFun1-13

All caught up on the Quilty Fun Quilt Along at the Fat Quarter Shop until Monday when a new block is released.  This is really turning out cute.  I’m pleased with it so far.

That’s three down and seven to go!  Can’t believe I have that many projects all going at one time!  Maybe once I get caught up, I will be able to keep up.
