Almost Caught Up

Just finished printing this weeks lesson for the Delightful Stars Quilt Along.  Will start cutting in a little bit.  Got the January M is for Mystery BOM cut and ready to sew.  Think I will be making 72 flying geese.  Sounds like that will take awhile.

LeaderEnderChallenge2013-2014a

Here are my split 9- patch blocks for the Leaders & Enders Challenge that Bonnie Hunter issued last summer.  I managed to make 157 blocks.  What ever size quilt I can get out of these blocks is what I’ll make.  Just can’t resist a challenge!  Don’t know when I’ll get around to putting the blocks together, but not before I get caught up on my current projects. I still have the Aiming for Accuracy top to finish.  I think by now it should count as an UFO, so I need to be working on it as part of Pat Sloan’s monthly UFO challenge.  I’ve been too busy playing catch up to worry about UFOs.

QuiltyFun15

This weeks Quilty Fun block is butterflies.  So I am caught up for the month on this one. Yeah!  Think March is the last month and then I will need to finish the top.  Challenge to myself; finish all current projects!  No more UFOs!  I already have enough thank you. Think most of my UFO work will be quilting completed tops so they can go in the guild quilt show this fall.

TellItToTheStarsJan&Feb

January and February blocks for Patchwork Times’ “Tell it to the Stars” BOM.  Another one that I’m caught up on.  I’m doing this one in yellows and gold with purple and red being the accent colors.  Hope I will like this combo.  I want to use different color schemes for each project.

Two More Rows

Yesterday I made blocks for two more rows of the challenge quilt. I ended up doing 12" blocks. Most of the blocks I picked had half square triangles and if I'd made 6" blocks I would have had to make 1" and 1-1/2" half square triangles. I suppose I could have, but I just didn't feel like it.

Here are the Ocean Waves blocks I made. It will probably be the third row. That sure is a lot of blue and makes my first row look out of place. I'm hoping when I do my next row it will blend in better. It doesn't have quite as much blue.

Here are my little sail boats that I will use as the second row. The next row will be fish, all nice and colorful.

Challenge Quilts

My challenge quilts for the AQG are complete except for labels.

My daughter likes the table runner best and I like the Poppy wall hanging best. I don't know if I will take them both to guild or not. That might look a little over ambitious. The truth of the matter, I couldn't make up my mind which one I wanted to do and I had enough fabric for both. As different as they look, they both are made from the exact same fabrics. I should go a head and make the labels and get them on, so I can put them up till July when the challenge is due. Putting them up could be dangerous. I have a bad habit of forgetting where I put things.

The EVQG challenge quilt is due in June, so I got started on it. I've got a basic plan in my head with perfect it as I go. So far I've got the blocks for one row done. These are "four winds" blocks.

I really like these blocks and think I should just stop right now, before I mess it up. These blocks were a lot of work, 36 units of which 28 were half square triangles. It is a good thing that I like them. The next row won't be as bad. I'm doing Ocean waves. The block patterns can be found at http://www.quilterscache.com A good resource for block patterns.

Tuesday Guild

Yesterday was the regular monthly meeting of AQG. Our program was member showcase quilts. 3 members showed off some of their quilts. It was nice. I didn't take any pictures, but did get a few pictures of Show 'N Tell.

I thought this top of Jan's was so cute. She makes some really fun quilts in bright colors.

I love this fabric line and just had to take a picture.

This is my friend, Sandra's (on the left) quilt. It is a wedding present that the couple have been waiting a good year and a half for. These aren't Sandra's colors and she had a hard time making a quilt using all neutral colors. It took her 6 months just to collect enough fabric.

I'm still working on my challenge quilt. I've gotten six more blocks made and have the parts for two more cut out.

I'm getting curious to see how this is going to turn out. I've got a colored diagram that I made of the quilt, but it really is hard to tell what it will look like, besides, I've changed some of the colors.

I've decided to try dying fabric for the borders of my roosting round robin. Dora is supposed to come over in a little bit and help me. Think we'll try the Shibori Wrapping Technique this time. We are using Createx Airbrush paint for the dying medium and use direct dying method. Hope I get some pretty fabric.

Challenge Quilt

I've been working on my challenge quilt for the Etowah Valley Quilt Guild challenge. I've made 10 blocks so far and have lots more to go. The quilt will be 65" x 85". I decided to do a good sized quilt this year instead of the wall hangings I've been doing in the past.

The fabric in the center of the stars in the middle row is our challenge fabric. The 3 Sister's Choice blocks on the bottom row are the challenge blocks. Plus we had to beg, barter, or steal some fabric from 3 of our quilting friends. I think I have all 3 of those fabrics in these blocks. So if worse comes to worse, and I don't get finished, I can put these 10 blocks together and still meet the rules of the challenge. I wanted to make my blocks with bright colors on a black background. Several years ago I was collecting a block of the month posted on the Internet done that way and it really caught my eye. I'm not sure were the pattern is right now and doubt that it had any Sister's Choice blocks in it. I decided to just make up my own layout.
